About the Region
Scotland's southern region, the Lowlands, produces whiskies that are lighter and more delicate than those from the north. Historically the region of triple distillation, Lowland whiskies are often described as the "aperitif" Scotch — perfect for those new to the spirit.
Flavour Profile
"Light, delicate, and floral. Notes of grass, honeysuckle, cream, and gentle spice. Often triple-distilled for extra smoothness. Ideal as an introduction to Scotch."

History
The Lowlands was once Scotland's most prolific whisky-producing region, with dozens of distilleries supplying the rapidly growing cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow in the 19th century. The region suffered devastating losses during the 20th century — Prohibition in the United States, two World Wars, and changing tastes reduced the number of active distilleries to just two by the 1980s. The revival began slowly in the 1990s and has accelerated dramatically in the 21st century. Today, a new generation of craft distilleries — including Kingsbarns, Daftmill, and Holyrood — are redefining the Lowland style while honouring its heritage. Edinburgh and Glasgow have both become significant whisky tourism destinations in their own right.
