About the Region
Perched on the tip of the Kintyre Peninsula, Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with over 30 distilleries operating in the late 19th century. Today, just three remain — but they produce some of Scotland's most distinctive and characterful whiskies.
Flavour Profile
"Complex and distinctive. Briny and maritime with notes of dried fruit, vanilla, toffee, and a subtle peatiness. Full-bodied with a long, complex finish."

History
Campbeltown's rise to whisky prominence began in the early 19th century, when the town's natural harbour, abundant coal, and ready supply of barley made it ideal for distilling. By 1886, there were 34 distilleries operating in and around the town. The collapse came swiftly: Prohibition in the United States eliminated the export market, and a reputation for poor quality — some distilleries had been cutting corners to meet demand — drove away buyers. By 1934, only two distilleries remained. The survival of Springbank, Glen Scotia, and the revival of Glengyle in 2004 has kept Campbeltown's status as a recognised whisky region alive. Springbank, still family-owned and operating all aspects of production on-site, is considered one of Scotland's most authentic and respected distilleries.
